Fingerprinting For Canadian Pardon Application

A pardon, known more formally as a record suspension, separates the records of the person who received the pardon from other, active criminal records within the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC). This means that if a pardon is granted, a person’s criminal record won’t appear in searches of the CPIC.

For this reason, many Canadians who have demonstrated that they are law-abiding citizens will request record suspensions. This can enable them to pass most criminal background checks and gain more meaningful employment.

Fingerprinting is an essential part of the record suspension application process. At FASTCHECK, we provide rapid, accurate fingerprinting services. We are accredited by the RCMP to take digital fingerprints for the purposes of obtaining criminal records.

Why are fingerprints needed for a pardon application?

In order to complete a pardon application, applicants need to obtain their criminal records. To do this, they must submit fingerprints to the RCMP. The RCMP uses fingerprints in order to ensure a more accurate survey of their database – names, addresses, and other information are relatively easy to change. An applicant’s fingerprints are not.

If you’re applying for a pardon, you need to visit an RCMP-accredited fingerprinting agency, like FASTCHECK. Ink fingerprints are no longer accepted by the RCMP for the purpose of pardon applications – you must have digital fingerprints taken by an accredited agency.
